Earworm Of The Day: The Rain In Spain
My mama raised me right. Hollywood musicals occupy an unwarranted amount of space in my brain. Yesterday, I mentioned Marni Nixon contributing the singing voice of Eliza Doolittle in the movie version of My Fair Lady. Today I am rewarded by waking up to The Rain In Spain running through my head.
It may be time to better define my terms here. I imagine an earworm as something running endlessly through my head, something that won’t go away until I force it out with other music. And this is usually exactly what happens. Today was an exception, because it didn’t take much effort, or a lot of time, for The Rain In Spain to give way to The Phantom Of The Opera (maybe because I have heard more Andrew Lloyd Webber than Lerner and Lowe?). And now, hours later, Under Pressure is running ‘round the track. And that one I have no clue where it came from. Bowie is fine. And he isn’t a Hollywood musical.
So, for my purposes, Today’s Earworm will feature the one I wake up with, and (usually) only if it hasn’t been featured already.
