Today's Earworm: Never Enough
Today I woke up with Never Enough from the musical film The Greatest Showman running between my ears. This actually isn't unusual; when one of my sons insisted we watch the movie a few months ago (yes, I've raised my children right, they don't run away from musicals), I was captivated by much of the music, but Never Enough especially grabbed my attention. It's sung by the character of 19th-century Swedish soprano Jenny Lind, played by the wonderful actor Rebecca Ferguson. But it's sung by Loren Allred, who started as the reference singer for the production. Actors having their singing voices dubbed in isn't unusual (think Marni Nixon singing Deborah Kerr's songs in The King And I or Audrey Hepburn's in My Fair Lady). But it was Ferguson who insisted Allred do her voice.
And Allred is great. I'm sure this song is in my head because yesterday I watched the YouTube video of her getting the Golden Buzzer on Britain's Got Talent, singing this song. It gives me chills every time I hear it. So it's a good song to run on and on, until I can find something to replace it.
